Bad Boy Made Good

Paul Lehrman

Paul Lehrman, composer, musician, writer, technologist and educator. "My music runs the gamut from the very simple and lyrical to the highly experimental. My influences range from Gregorian chant and medieval troubadors to the post-Webern serialists and minimalists of the late 20th century, with everything in between. I am as comfortable with jazz, rock, folk, blues, new age, ambient, and electronica as I am with classical forms, and the scores I've written for television and multimedia reflect that range. My specialty is creating authentic-sounding instrumental music with electronic instruments: "orchestral sound on a MIDI budget"."

As author of four published books and contributor to five others, he was principal author of the standard college-level text on MIDI. As a columnist for the leading recording magazines in the US and UK he has authored over 450 articles. Mr Lehrman is the co-developer of the first graphic-based MIDI sequencer for the Apple Macintosh. He has been consultant to over a dozen music and audio hardware and software companies and is an advisor to and advocate for the computer-music community since 1982.

He has been a teacher of computer music and audio engineering at the university level since 1986. He is the creator of the computer music curriculum in the Sound Recording Technology program at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Currently he is a member of the music faculty at Tufts University.
