How to Philosophize
with a Hammer

'How to philosophize with a Hammer' is the first release by the Electronic Hammer trio, which is Henry Vega (composer & computer), Diego Espinosa (percussionist, actor & dancer) and Juan Parra (Composer, Improviser, Live Electronics Performer, Guitar & Stick player). Like the subtitle from Nietzsche's 'Twilight of the Idols' suggests, the hammer will be used to ask the hard musical questions without reservations or sensitivities. Its only aim is to break the ground of the new medium with vision and precision in order to pick up the pieces and find a way forward.

The 'electronic hammer' of the group's name refers not only to the struck sounds at the center of its performances, but also to its aims relative to previously accepted modes of composition and performance with instruments and electronics. The trio cracks them open to reveal a new, flexible and open-ended approach.

Compositions are Espinosa, Vega and Parra's 'The Electronic Hammer', Juan Sebastian Lach Lau's 'Pantaleén', Henry Vega's 'Liquidus', Juan Parra's 'Refraction II', Cort Lippe's Music for Hi-Hat and Computer', Ricardo Giraldo's 'De'go', and Rodrigo Sigal's 'Me(n)tal'.
